Off-Spring

Released December 13th

An expansion and reimagining of the original 'Primaries' Collection - diving deeper into curiosity, play, and wonder.

The Off-Spring Collection represents the natural evolution of my original Primaries Collection - a deeper dive into the possibilities of form and color. In this expansion, I am pushing the boundaries of porcelain, introducing playful silhouettes like hearts, stars, and giraffes brought to life through color-drenched glazes.

I approached this collection with a spirit of experimentation, exploring how rigid materials can mimic soft, ephemeral objects. Each piece possesses its own distinct personality, holding an embodied, fossilized energy transferred during the sculpting process. At a glance, they appear to be weightless balloons; only upon closer inspection is the illusion revealed, giving way to the permanence and solidity of porcelain. This Collection was released on December 13th in collaboration with Anarte Gallery.

Off-Spring Collection

The Primaries Collection is an effort in reconnection and the reclamation of the creative spirit. After a thirteen-year hiatus from the medium of clay, I returned to the studio with a singular obsession: to rediscover the unfettered curiosity and lightheartedness of childhood. This series marks a pivotal gateway back to the craft. A deliberate attempt to capture the fleeting, ephemeral energy of play and fossilize it into permanent form.

The collection is anchored by a triptych of porcelain balloon sculptures, each defined by the purity of primary colors: Red, Blue, and Yellow. These hues serve as a foundational palette, signaling a return to the "primaries" of both art and memory.

There is a purposeful tension within these works. While the silhouettes evoke the weightlessness of air and the fragility of a moment, they are sculpted of porcelain. Each piece holds its own personality, serving as a record of embodied energy - a physical dialogue between the artist and the clay after nearly two decades of silence. In Primaries, the ephemeral becomes enduring, and the playful spirit of the past is rendered tangible.

When viewers engage with these pieces, my hope is that they serve as a window into their own spirit. The balloons are intended to act as a mirror for our collective playfulness and creativity. An opportunity to reconnect with the inner parts of ourselves that often become fleeting as we age. By giving a permanent, solid form to a symbol of celebration, the work invites us to hold onto the wonder we once knew.

The Primaries Collection was released on March 22nd, 2024, in collaboration with Ornamental Gallery.
